On ms windows there is %HOMEPATH% and %USERPROFILE%.
No idea how they differ,
MS Windows Command shell overview:
[*] GRASS must know where home is, as that's where it looks for .grassrc6.
if "%HOME%"=="" set HOME=%USERPROFILE%
